What is this site about
This dictionary is developed for English speaking people who are studying Estonian language. If you are an Estonian who is looking for an English dictionary you might still consider this dictionary useful, although there are probably better alternatives out there for you.
What makes this dictionary then so useful for people who study Estonian? The answer is simple: multiple cases! Regular online dictionaries gives you usually only the first case of a noun (the nominative) while Estonian grammar contains 14 cases! However, normally you only need the first 3 cases of a noun and then you are able to create the other cases yourself. That is exactly what this dictionary does; it gives you the first 3 cases (nominative, genitive and partitive) !
But wait, there is more! Verbs are also handled differently in Estonian grammar, each verb has a so called -ma and -da infinitive. And that is what this dictionary does - it gives you both infinitives. And just to make it complete, it even gives you the "tema" conjugation !
Of course, this all works both ways. You can search for both English as Estonian words to find the correct translation and corresponding cases. You don't even have to remember how to write the full word - the dictionary is perfectly capable of finding matches if you only give the first letters of the word you're looking for !
